Government Regulation of Tobacco Products

After reading Government Regulation of Tobacco Products Discussion Case at the end of Chapter 8 in our text, I would have to describe the orientation of Reynolds toward tobacco regulation at arm’s length.  I say this because according to our text being at arm’s length refers to a position that is taken by businesses when they are at odds with a goal being imposed by a Government regulation.  This position can result in a not so good relationship between such business and the government while working ‘at arm’s length’ from each other.  Now when it comes to the attitude of Altria towards the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, provided by the FDA, I would say they acted in a way of cooperation.  Altria did what they could to have a partnership that would make a mutually beneficial agreement moving forward in order to make sure they were within these regulation guidelines.
