According to The Bureau of Justice Statistics, in 2010 the rate of women committing burglaries was 28 per 100,000 persons. The rate of men committing burglaries in 2010 was 180 per 100,000 persons (Office of Justice Programs, 2009). This information shows that in the areas containing more men, there are higher burglary rates. The rate of whites committing burglaries in 2010 was 80 per 100,000 persons. The rate of blacks committing burglaries in 2010 was 210 per 100,000 persons. The rate of all other races was 80 per 100,000 (Office of Justice Programs, 2009). This information shows that in areas that contained more blacks, the burglary rates were higher. Memphis has a greater population of over 300,000 people. Memphis has a larger black population than Pittsburg and according to the statistics; blacks have a higher burglary rate than other races. These statistics give an explanation as to the reason for the dramatic difference in reported burglary activity between Memphis and Pittsburg.
