The family systems theory allows members to role play with respect. Members respond to one another according to his or her role within the relationship. The change in roles allows stability within the relationship through change and understanding. To employa family system theory, individuals must understand his or her behavior within the family by completing a genogram. A genogram is a graphical picture of a family unit (GenoPro, 1998-2011). This allows the discussion of personal patterns and reveals more effective solutions for problem solving. Personally, this technique is useful when understanding the roles of others within the family. Each individual member has a contribution to acquiring a successful family. Understanding individual roles shows support of the family, encouragement, and love. These factors contribute highly to a successful family.
