Knowing your Body Mass Index or BMI is an important part of leading a healthier life style. BMI is one of the ways to determine if an adult is overweight by using an equation that assess one’s height and weight to find out their total BMI. There are several ranges that a person’s BMI can fall under, the ranges are: BMI of 17 to 25 then the person is probably not overweight and is considered to be within a healthy weight, a person with a BMI of 26-29.9 is considered to be overweight, and having a BMI over 30 is considered obese. Having a BMI of 40 or above indicates that a person is morbidly obese which can increase a person's risk of death from any cause by 50% to 150%. Because muscle mass is not a factor in calculating one’s BMI can be misleading by showing that someone who is muscular as being overweight. By using the formula for body mass index coupled with my height I will show at what intervals a person my height might fall into the healthy and unhealthy BMI intervals.
