Welcome to RES351. As a professional manager in a Fortune 500 company, I have used business research l methods for making good (and some not so good, in hindsight) business decisions. I am a strong proponent of using data and analytical methods for making business decisions. This course will address the value of using a quantitative approach to making business decisions, as well as reveal some myths such as "gut feel of managers". A recent article in an Arizona newspaper, about an IBM Fellow who designed the original IBM PC, stated that he thought the total volume of PCs to be ever sold will be in the tens of thousands. As this IBM Fellow acknowledged, was he wrong! I look forward to sharing with you the techniques which are used in practice to enable managers to make sound business decisions.
