The nature of warehousing operations require individuals to manage many different actions flowing at once to efficiently store product and get it out to the customers. As stated in the text Warehousing can use all the best and efficient equipment, but without effective management the operations will fail. Even if the technical systems are the best, unmotivated people can still cause failures” (Emmett, 2005, p 227). One qualification for warehouse managers is a familiarity with automated / computerized warehousing systems. Many warehousing operations are using automated equipment operating systems and automated data collection systems and managers must be knowledgeable in these systems. Another qualification for managers is good communication skills.
