Security and personal protection has evolved into big business, and the security industry has provided protection to individuals and organizations where a value is placed on assets, people and property. The authors of The Evolution of Asset Protection and Security states that “Security” implies protection: safety from attack, espionage, or sabotage. It means being able to live, work, or play free from harm in a stable environment. Organizations must take measures to minimize disruption. These measures are dependent on a variety of factors, such as threat probability, criticality, culture of the organization, financial resources available, and so on. The measures taken have changed through “the march of time” (Christman, Hertig, Purpura, & Segraves, 2003 p.20).
