My first reaction to “The Gentle Lena” was that plot and setting were simply not traditional, but rather very repetitive. As a matter of fact, it was kind of hard to read (which is why I am finally finishing up my post) because it would put me to sleep. The repetition was very annoying in this story. The repetition made is seem like Lena’s life really was passive and passionless because her husband really wasn’t in love with her, but kept having kids. She was definitely the doormat of the family because even the children walked over her. What really proved her to be passionless is more so how her husband felt when she died. If she were more passionate and maybe a little more aggressive her husband may have actually missed her when she died.
