There are many ethics and values associated with criminal justice professionals as outlined in the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics. Some of these ethics and values are as follows: I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all and will behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to me or my agency. I will never act unofficially or permit personal feelings, prejudices, political beliefs.....to influence my decisions. I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and i accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the values of police service. I know that I alone am responsible for upholding these values and professional standards.... (MPOETC 2010).
Criminal justice professional are held to these standards as a public trust that is vested upon them. Police officer are the only people who have the right to restrict someone's freedom of movement and other rights that are afforded to us in the Constitution of the United States.
