Hypothesis testing refers to the normal procedures used by statisticians to accept or reject statistical hypotheses. Some terms related to hypothesis testing are focus groups, experiments, studies, and samples. Researchers typically take a random sample of a population, examine it, in order to come up with a conclusion or to determine whether or not it will be accepted or rejected.
The two statistical hypotheses are null and alternative hypotheses. The null hypothesis, denoted by H0, is usually the hypothesis that sample observations result purely from chance. The alternative hypothesis, denoted by H1 or Ha, is the hypothesis that sample observations are influenced by some non-random cause.
