Virtual organizations have been evolving for decades.  Native Americans used smoke signals to get the word to geographically remote people as well as in the middle ages along with alarm bells.  Another example of primitive use of communication is the telegraph that allowed people to communicate one continent to the next.  On the other hand, radio and the telephone allowed for long-range voice communication.  Virtual organizations really did not come into trend until the personal computer, the internet, and video conferencing were readily available.  Today people communicate not only on a national level but also on multi-national levels as companies find ways to stay connected virtually.  This technology allows individuals to communicate and work side-by-side on projects without meeting face-to-face or same work cente
