In my job, I have seen many small groups come together, work together, and break up and move on to other groups. I work for an electric utility and we assemble crews or groups of 4-6 individuals to do different jobs. These crews change personnel from time to time and range from one person to several people at once. We do try to avoid a mass turnover in any one crew so the crew will maintain a certain level of continuity. Because our work is inherently dangerous (working on high voltage) it is critical for there to be a high level of trust, competency, and accountability on each crew. Personalities, egos, leadership styles and initiative all have an effect on how long and how successful these crews will be. These traits also affect how long it will take for any crew to move through these four stages, Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing.
