COCA-COLA: COMPANY INVESTMENT PROFILE

A.    INTRODUCTION

The Coca-Cola Company is an American multinational beveragemanufacturer, retailer, and marketer of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups. Although the company headquarters are based in Atlanta, Georgia, it operates a conglomerate of bottling entities running globally as subsidiaries. With its long standing tradition of excellence, the Coca-Cola Company is also famed for its ability to keep hold of one of the longest standing business secrets in the form of the Coca-Cola formula and brand, which was invented in 1886, long before the incorporation of the company in 1889.

The large size of the company is evident from the sheer fact that it operated in over 200 countries as at December2005, with its beverage products being sold in all of these countries. The 2010 report also indicated that the company serve approximately 1.6 billion beverages daily which bear the trademarks owned by or licensed to the Coca-Cola Company. The company’s oldest beverage brand trademark, "Coca-Cola" or "Coke" accounted around 78 percent of the company's total gallon sales.  Coca-Cola is known for its generous engagement in community projects all over the world, with the highlight being its $1,700,500 contribution in 2012 towards a political campaign estimated to be worth $46 million. The campaign, dubbed ‘The Coalition against the Costly Food Labeling Proposition, sponsored by Farmers and Food Producers’ was established to oppose Proposition 37, an initiative set up by civilians to demand the forced labeling of all foods items that contained any ingredients developed through genetic modifications (Murden, 2005).
