A brawl in Mickey’s backyard
A fight rang out between SunCal and the city council of Anaheim, California over property to build affordable housing in ‘Mickey’s backyard’. “In the 1990’s the city had designated two square miles that were adjacent to Disneyland as a special resort district (Lawrence & Weber, 2011)”. SunCal planned to buy 26 acres across from Disneyland to build condominiums, with 15 percent of the units for below-market-rate renters. In this paper I will try my best to define the relevant market and non-market stakeholders and I will provide possible solutions to this dispute.
