an essay of about three double-spaced pages (1,000 – 1200 words) that is a specific and detailed discussion about those parts of our study of the western world from the Renaissance into the early part of the 20th century that exemplify the making of what is best for humanity in the 21st Century. A good approach to this assignment is for YOU to THINK as you REVIEW the pages in your textbook and the plays (Tartuffe and A Doll House). At a minimum include in your essay one philosophic concept and a combination of creative endeavors (drama, satire, painting . . .) that attempted to contribute to positively changing certain human attitudes, behaviors, or social constructs that you have chosen to discuss. Your essay should begin with a brief definition of “modernity” that leads into the aspects of human development that you have chosen to present. Remember that you are working toward scoring points as though you were responding in greater depth to questions on a final examination.
