Click on the link and select “Model Papers” from the bar across the top of the page.  Read the first two in the list; both are about using cell phones while driving. (The authors’ names are Daly and Levi.)  After you have read the papers, write your response, being sure to answer the following questions:

1.        What is the purpose of using research in these two papers?  What do the writers accomplish by doing so?

2.        Give an example of one use of research that you thought was very persuasive.  Explain which paper it is in and what page it is on, and then summarize it.  Finally, explain why it was so convincing.

3.        Give an example of one quotation or paraphrase where the authors use the “quote sandwich” or “introduce, include, integrate” methods to incorporate the research into their own writing.  Again, identify which paper it is in and what page it is on.  Explain how this technique makes it easier for readers to follow the writer’s point.

4.        Explain your own opinion about using cell phones or other devices while driving.  What should the laws be to regulate the use of technology by drivers?  Why?  (Consider all kinds of technology – even GPS devices and car radios.)
