Healthcare licensing
$ 8.00

Analyze and comment on the role this professional licensing group plays in the creation of policy within the profession as well as the impact those policies potentially have on the economics of health services.

California Board of Registered Nurses is the licensing agency of my choice. The Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) is a state governmental agency established by law to protect the public by regulating the practice of registered nurses. The BRN is responsible for implementation and enforcement of the Nursing Practice Act: the laws related to nursing education, licensure, practice, and discipline. The BRN protects and advocates for the health and safety of the public by ensuring the state of California has the highest quality registered nurses.

2. Then, specifically look at the composition of the licensing agency’s board of directors.

Describe the present composition of the board membership.

We have the Nursing Practice Act which is responsible for creating a nine-member Board which serves as the BRN decision-making body. The composition of the board is both male and female; totaling nine board members who serve as the policy-setting body for the Board. Seven of the members are appointed by the Governor, one by the Senate President Pro-Tempore, and one by the Assembly Speaker. Board members include five registered nurses and four public members. Each member serves a four-year term and can be re-appointed, although the member cannot serve more than two consecutive terms.

3. Evaluate the social-cultural issues that might influence health economics in your state based on the diversity of the board in question.

4. Is the present composition a fair representation of the community the board is supposed to serve? What, if any, consumer representation exists on the board?

5. Compare and contrast economic challenges and incentives among health care’s organizational models such as the licensing agency you have selected.
