You have a large farm (2200 acres) and want to maximize the yield from your crops.  You have the choice between your standard fertilizer and a new fertilizer that claims to increase the crop yield. 

You decide to test the two fertilizers on 15 parcels of land on your farm before committing money to the new fertilizer.  You divide the 15 parcels into two portions, planting one half with the old fertilizer and one half with the new fertilizer.

1.  Perform a two tailed hypothesis test considering the data as two independent samples (show all six steps).  What is your conclusion (step V and VI)?  Is there a statistically significant difference between the two samples?

2.  Perform a one tailed hypothesis test (show all six steps) to determine which of the two fertilizer samples is a better choice.  What is your conclusion?  Is there a statistically significant difference between the two samples?

3.  Explain why the results were different between the two tests, and which test is a stronger and more reliable test.
