International Learning Company (ILC): Network and Device Security and Recovery Phase 2

Phase 2 Group Project Manager ______________________________

Phase 2 Documentation Specialist ______________________________

Note: Refer to the Course Project Grading Rubric in the Course Information section of this course for a detailed breakdown of how you will be graded for Phase 2.

Objective: The group will implement additional features into the ILC network shown in the diagram and description below. Verify that all configurations are operational and functioning according to the guidelines. Read this document thoroughly before proceeding.

Scenario: The responsibilities of the network engineers with International Learning Company include managing security on the network and storing copies of all files needed by the network including flash and startup files.

Assumption: Phase 1 is functional and correctly routing packets

Connect hosts to each switch for testing purposes. Note: Online students will not have access to the Internet, a Linksys device or the extra Servers.  They should plan this in Packet Tracer and implement it in VCASTLE except for those devices.

The network must meet the following additional requirements and deliverables

1.     Secure all routers and switches with usernames and passwords.  For purposes of this exercise, all routers will share a common username, student. The student password will be cisco.  In addition, each router will have at least one other username/password as designated by the implementation team.

2.     Create VTY access from any device, including hosts, to any switch or router. Encrypt all passwords.

3.     Change the serial links to PPP and set them up to use CHAP.  The password on the links will be cisco.

4.     Configure the Richmond Servers to be TFTP servers and store the flash files of all the routers on the network.  Startup configurations should also be saved to the TFTP.

5.     (Inseat only) The Linksys device is proving to be unsuitable for the security and connection needs of the network.  Choose and place a different Router in its place that can support NAT, NTP, IPv6, and reflexive access lists, as well as be a DHCP client.

6.     Update the topology configuration where needed.

7.     Document any difficulties that were encountered.

8.     What implementation issues or limitations were found?

9.     List two suggestions for improving this network configuration and design.
